a little cancon

I was asked the other day (thanks Doug) if I could put up more images of local and Canadian bands. I will make an effort to do that since I have a fair bit of Canadian content in my archives. I am going to kick off the look at Canadian rock with Max Webster. These images were from 1979 or 1980. The first time I saw Max Webster was opening for Styx at the Corral in 1977. I had no idea who they were at the time, but I must say I was totally impressed by their show and quirkiness, and was an immediate fan. The first time I shot Max was when they were opening for Rush in 1977. The images from that show I only have as little prints but once I hunt down the negs I will post them along with the Rush images from that show. It was only the 3rd time I had ever shot a concert so I really still didn't know what I was doing, but sure had fun doing it. The following images were probably the 3rd or 4th time seeing Max Webster and they were headlining by this time. Let us all step out in High Class in Borrowed Shoes with Kim Mitchell and the boys in Max Webster circa 1979ish.

a little more tull

The Wednesday night performance at the Jubilee was awesome as usual. Tull has always been high on my list of bands that always put on a spectacular show. Great performers, great musicians, great songs and the sound was superb.  A good collection of songs through the years and some nice reworked compositions from the Aqualung album. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Here is the second instalment of Jethro Tull images. These shots I believe were taken in 1978 at the Corral in Calgary during the Heavy Horses tour. I was a huge Tull fan at the time (still am), and it was a real thrill to be shooting them. I hope people can enjoy looking at the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. Sit back check out some Tull and make some requests if you like - I will see if I have the shots.

tull preview

Well I drifted away a bit from my blogging duties, but hope to be back on a more steady basis. Looking forward to this evenings performance of Jethro Tull on their Aqualung 40th Anniversary Tour. As a warm up I have a little preview of some Tull images with more to come tomorrow. I have had the pleasure of seeing numerous Jethro Tull tours and have yet to be disappointed. Cannot wait for the show tonight hoping it will spark some memories to add to the photos I can post tomorrow. Enjoy and I hope you get to see the show.
